Barrie was my Std 3 teacher at Westown School and I remember him as my best ever teacher. Had the pleasure of visiting him last year when attending the Centennial. An enjoyable hour or so with his memory "sharp as a tack". Colin Cutforth

I knew Barrie through teaching and bowls. An amazing sense of humour with dozens of jokes and wise saying on hand. A great Paritutu Bowling Cub Member and an effective caring and greatly loved teacher. He put a little spark into the day for everyone, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed
Go well Barrie, keep the jokes going and rest in piece. God bless you.

Barry has been a life long friend of the family. Many special memories of the pot luck dinners held with friends through the NPYC. Sunburst sailing - always wearing a towelling orange bucket hat.
Wonderful memories never forgotten.

Condolences to the Slyfield family. One of the rare people that taught me at school that I remember well. I guess it helped for me our love of sports including Barry coaching us to a rare rugby trophy for Okato Primary school or the patter tennis courts, as we challenged you for king of the court. Our paths crossed at times via bowls or rugby clubs. Left a positive impression on my early schooling life.

Barry and I met after he became a resident at Rhapsody. I'm a regular visitor there. Although we had only our age in common , we had many stimulating conversations about our past. I knew, and Ba.rrie knew that he had had enough. Sadly I was in hospital having a heart attack and was not able to be there near the end. I miss him already

Condolences to the Slyfield family....Barrie and Geraldine were close friends during the fifties and the sixties, with a combined love of sailing. We lost touch over the last thirty tears, which I now regret
