Dear John, Brendon, Moira and family,
We had the privilege of Bernard offering us the 39% job at Te Roti for 2 very enjoyable years.
In our opinion, he was the perfect boss!! He was there everyday for the first 6 months as we lacked experience, offering support and guidance then once he felt confident with us, we struggled to get him to visit!!
At the end of our contract, he gave us a huge opportunity to buy most of his herd, which set us up with the nucleus of our 50/50 herd.
What an honour to have known him and work under him. Such a generous, gentleman....such a loss!!
Apologises for the delayed message, we have only just heard about his passing.
Our sincere condolences.

We feel very honoured to have known Bernard and Josephine for the past 8 years. They were ideal neighbours and we were proud to call them friends. To have lost them both in such a short period is a hard blow for the family, but they are now both at peace and their family will always cherish the fond memories they have of them.
We will always treasure Bernie's sense of humour, his moral values and his love of having a 'chat'. We will miss him and we will never forget him.

Condolences to all the Kelly family. We have many special memories of the time we were lucky enough to spend with Bernie. As our first share-milking opportunity was with Bernie & Josephine we now cannot express how valuable that experience was! They were both genuinely interested in our progress and encouraged us to aspire further career opportunities. In fact they employed 3 generations of the Moore family. An outstanding achievement of a man who was so closely aligned to the Taranaki dairy industry. Rest easy Bernie - your work is done.

My diaries show that in 1979, my grandmother Myra Liang Harrison died on 13 May. Her first husband was Francis James Kelly who died in 1940, and I understand he was one of Bernard's uncles. Bernard would have been 17 or 18 years old when my grandfather died. My mother (Aenid Lily Werder nee Kelly) who died in 2015 aged 95 (buried in Hawera) was Bernard's cousin. Bernard was auctioneer when our family farm on Onewhaia Road in Te Roti was sold up in July 1968 (I was there aged 15 years and remembered the care and professionalism). I often wondered if I (Peter) and my younger brother Bernard were not named after my mother's cousins.... Condolences to the family and its extended members. -Peter Werder, Wellington.
