Doreen and Family
Jonesy and myself offer you all our deepest thoughts at turn huge loss that was Charlie.
The stories told of a "cup of tea or coffee" were never just that. I remember Charlie coming into countdown in oyster season and asking me to put a punnet aside for him, or he would ring me at CD and request a punnet, of course we weren´t suppose to put the oysters aside but I did everytime, the laughs and the stories I´d hear and have heard over the past 20yrs will stay with all of us forever.
If we can´t make the funeral please accept this personal message from us both, love and thoughts to you all xx

Another final page that records the history of Kaponga has been written with the passing of Charlie. As already noted aptly..'Now there was a man..' He would always manage to provide a smidgen of humour for me at a graveside with his thoughtful stuffing of 'tribute earth' into my lapel pocket of my suit whilst I was looking the other way. He will be so missed Doreen, and you and family will find his passing so difficult. My sincere condolences to you all- may his rest be in peace, and the memories he made over the years live on in each and everyone of you.

In today´s internet copy of the Taranaki Daily News via Legacy.com I saw the death notice for Charles Matthews.
To Doreen and all the family, especially to Charlie and Shawn, whom I remember well from those far off days at FDMC, I offer my sincere sympathy on the passing of Charles.
With his death the final curtain now comes down, on so much that has been part of your own lives, leaving no doubt many happy memories of the years gone so quickly.
May the Good Lord welcome Charles home with outstretched arms, and may he be forever at peace.
Declan G Thompson.. (retired now in Sydney) [email protected]

Charlie was a dairy farmer and had a lifelong dedication to his family including the gentle ribbing of his sisters. He will be remembered for wit and humour and his ability to create well-mannered mischief. He is survived by his sister Sally and was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Sarah, and his sisters June, Betty, Patsy, Georgie and Francie.
