I was passing Abraham's today and saw there was a big funeral on. Then I saw the old flathead V8s sprinkled through the parked cars, the Cadillac hearse and I knew it must've been someone I knew. So I just came home and looked in here and was sad to see it was Chris, a man who had a profound influence on me as a young fleet mechanic at Newcan and Chris the transporter driver. He was certainly a guy you could look up to and the parties at his place in Banks St (I think) were fantastic fun. He had great stories of he and the late Tex Schwass working as roughnecks for Republic oil down on Ngamotu beach. He said that the Republic boss gave both he and Tex Driller's tickets as they left the country with all their gear and they were both set up for life. Chris didn't stay driving for long when the oil & gas finally kicked off back then. He's had a great life since I'm sure and sorry it had to end. Bon voyage Chris, hopefully there's plenty of flatheads and Hogs to keep you busy. Condolences to family

My condolences to Andy and the rest of the Tompkins family. Chris was my Oilfield Sadhu. He provided me a role model, a friendly face, a warm greeting, good humor and a trusting soul. He was big as life and I truly enjoyed and cherished working with the man over the last 3 decades. I will always remember him. Rest in peace my friend.

I first worked with Chris in 1994 as a green 21 year old, and many times over the following decade or so. He was a font of knowledge, fair, a good listener and truly understood what was happening down a well. He was a pleasure to work for and will be missed. Thoughts and best wishes to his family at this time.
