Christopher JENKINS Obituary

Surrounded by love from both near and afar, our darling Chris slipped peacefully on to his next journey. Adored husband of Priscilla. Treasured dad of Nathan, David and Tammy, Patrice and Tom, and Simon (deceased). Dearly loved step-dad of Samuel, Lucy and Tim, Jamie and Jodie, Meghan and Jacob. Doting "Grandad Chris" to his 12 grandchildren in New Zealand and the USA. Beloved brother to Paul and Tiffany, Steve and Joan, Bronwyn, and Mark. Much loved brother-in-law of Matthew, Paul and Alex, and John. Admired uncle of his nephews, nieces and their families. Friend to many.

Rest easy, you dear man.

My heart felt condolences to Priscilla and family. I worked with Chris on the tanker terminal in recent years. Chris was a great bloke. We spent many hours talking (of all things) about our passion for finding, cutting, splitting and stacking firewood, and how much of it our wives loved to burn. Rest in peace.

I only met Chris a handful of times but I knew he was an absolute gem. He was so very kind to me, a complete stranger, when I needed help - one of those rare people whose warmth and goodness just shine through. Sending love to Priscilla and the whole family xxx

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Chris's passing. He was a truly special person, and I will always treasure the time we spent windsurfing together-those moments of freedom, laughter, and connection with the sea will stay with me forever. It pains me that I can't be there for the funeral, as I´m currently in France, but please know that my thoughts and heart are with all of you during this difficult time.

I'm so saddened to hear of Chris's passing, condolences to you Priscilla & family, he always spoke so highly of you all. I worked with Chris during my time at Port Taranaki. In 2016 after the container trade had nearly ended, I was stationed to NKTT to "help" Chris, Paul and Tony while I awaited my maternity leave to start - a period of about 6 months. I don't think I was much help but I enjoyed my time with the guys learning the workings of the tanker terminal. Chris was such a genuine nice guy, nothing was ever an issue and he always had time for a chat. I remember one morning when I got to work, Chris announced he was taking me to lunch, he kinda winked as he said it and looked keenly out the window to the big tanker that had arrived overnight. He said we wouldn't go aboard and do our checks till after 11:30, that way lunch would be on offer. Sure enough, half an hour later we were seated at the captains table enjoying a buffet lunch! I couldn't believe it, 10yrs of going aboard container ships and getting nothing but the odd can of coke! All in a days work for Chris. Rest easy mate, surf the windy waves of heaven x

I was fortunate enough to work alongside Chris at Port Taranaki from 2001 until 2015. His wisdom, courage, and kindness quickly became evident to me as various events unfolded at NKTT including ship malfunctions, protests, and cargo loading challenges. The Tanker Terminal Twins, Paul and Chris, and their colleagues, and faithful cat "Colins", saw that order was restored and tragedies avoided. As a newly minted CEO at the port I was grateful for Chris's calm and knowledgeable approach. Sleep well my friend, and give us a wave as we peddle past. With love, Roy and Annette.

My condolences to Priscilla and all the family, a true gentleman has left us. I met Chris for the first time, back in the days of Shell BP Todd, at Kapuni. As time passes by, changes have been made for us, my employment with SBPT (changed to STOS), I was redundant. I then met Chris again at Port Taranaki, 1995, Chris, a Newton King Tanker Terminal Superintendant and I with Communitcation / Security. The memory gates open again. Working as team within the Newton King Tanker Terminal building our Communitcation / Security team and the Newton King Tanker Terminal Superintendants, we were a great team. Fond memories made of the many years at Port Taranaki. Rest In Peace Chris, you will be sadly missed, not forgotten.
