Michael Smith Obituary

Michael Troy Smith, born on January 27, 1956, in Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at the age of 69.

Michael grew up in Tar Heel, North Carolina, where he graduated from Tar Heel High School and was an avid baseball player. Following his graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. After completing his service, he embarked on a successful career in the construction industry.

A man of varied interests, Michael found great joy in the outdoors, particularly in fishing and hunting excursions with his beloved sons. His passion for music was evident as he skillfully played the drums with various local bands that performed throughout the Carolinas.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Marshall and Jane Wilson Smith. He is survived by his five children: Duane (Anna) of Calabash, NC; Melinda of Fayetteville, NC; Travis (Madilyn) of Parkton, NC; Paul (Katie) of Graham, NC; and Rachel of Parkton, NC. He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren.

Michael's legacy lives on through his family and the many memories they shared together. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
