On Monday, 23rd March 2026, peacefully at Mary Shapley Care Home, aged 82 years. Loved mother of Leon and Dylan. Treasured grandmother of Bryant, Pfiefer, Livingston, and Gustav. Loving sister of David. Member of the Rangimarie Maori Arts and Crafts Society. A special thank you to Mary Shapley for their care and support. A private cremation will be held. We honour the life and legacy of Colleen, a founding member of the Child Development Training Programme (now known as Educare Training) in New Plymouth, Taranaki.

Together with Joan Gower, Colleen helped create a programme that has endured for 38 years, opening doors for countless individuals seeking education or a new pathway into teaching or supporting people with impairments. Her vision and commitment have had a lasting impact on our community.

Through her work, thousands of trainees have gained skills, confidence, and opportunities—many going on to meaningful employment or further training in the field. This is a powerful legacy that continues to benefit others every day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Colleen’s family and acknowledge with deep gratitude the foresight, dedication, and care she brought to her work. Her contribution will be remembered and honoured for generations to come.
