Dearest Jane. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Darcy. Our Dr Darcy as we called him. I was only talking about him this week not knowing you had lost him in September and then I heard last night. I was so shocked as he was always the healthy sporty one, while we were the unhealthy boozy ones. Thinking of you and the girls as you all muddle through all the daily routines and celebrations with out him.

To dear Darcy. I was devastated to hear of your passing this morning. I have sadly not seen you for a long time but you will always be in my mind as one of the most gentle, kind, humble and wise souls I have ever met. You will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to your family. All love.

Whilst most of our contact was via email or phone we always enjoyed speaking with Darcy.
The times he did call into the rooms he always found time to have a chat, hear our news, share his news, especially about his family. A couple of times he even sat in the main office and worked alongside us, one time sharing what he was teaching his medical students and how much he enjoyed teaching.
There was a great sense of loss and sadness when we learnt of his death and for us there will always be a permanent empty space on the booking list that will never be filled by another anaesthetist.
Our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathy are extended to his family.

Dear Jane, Rita, Zella, Margaret,

I was Darcy's flatmate 35 years ago. I mention this because even after all these years, I remember Darcy so well. He was one of the most calm, kind, gentle souls I have ever met. He was also a dry wit with a wicked sense of humour! He devoted so much time to others, but his family were his world. The last time I saw him he talked only of his family, he was so proud of his daughters.

Darcy will be in the hearts and minds of so many people, even those who only briefly crossed his path in life. I feel really proud to have known him.

My deepest sympathies.

Dear Jane, Rita, Zella, Margaret and Joanne.
Darcy was a friend from surf lifesaving at United North Piha. He was a role model to many of my friends as well myself. Most don't know but he also saved my cousin Lauren's life after been hit by a car on Parnell Rise. She has gone on to lead a wonderful life as a school teacher. Me and my family will forever be grateful beyond words. Fly high mate, with the other kings with wings.

Darcy is a beautiful person, kind, generous of spirit and an inspiration to those who met him.

He spoke with the voice of reason, fair and just, made resonant by his humility and humour.

My deepest condolences to his family, who he always talked about with such devotion and love.

I wish him every peace in his final rest.

He will be missed.

I will remember him, a Mr Darcy of our time.

My heart is heavy, yet I still manage a smile when I recall memories of you Darcy. Your easy smile and dry sense of humour; your adventurous nature and your positive attitude are just some of the qualities that made you such a wonderful friend to so many of us. Rest in peace Darcy.

In life there are people who forge a path, natural leaders whose contributions are transformative. We are drawn to their positivity, forming strong bonds of friendship that stand the test of time.

There are people who are a compass - they help us discern right from wrong, they role model what it is to be kind and to care for others.

There are teachers whose knowledge and passion for what they do inspires us to learn and grow.

These people are rare and unique in this world and Darcy is remembered by our team as a person who encapsulated all of these things. He was part of our work family and we are heart sore to say goodbye.

Darcy we thank you for your service, your kindness and your friendship. You have changed our lives and we are better people for it.

From your team at North Harbour Hospital

My condolences to Darcy's family. I am so sorry for your loss and so early in life. Darcy was a school mate and friend of mine from Hawera. Even in his youth he was one of those honest, authentic and kind souls, that you come across from time to time in your life. I know he will be sadly missed.

I get the last letter to the Herald Darcy... I will forever remember Darcy as a thoughtful and kind man who contributed so much to the world of anaesthetic medicine and the sporting cultural fabric of Auckland. He also personally supported an academic scholarship for those with promise in hometown. However the thing he valued most was his family and his partnership with Jane and fatherhood to Rita and Zella were his greatest achievements. A life lived to its fullest. Not bad for a boy from Hawera.
