Des has been a close friend of our Hennessy family since I was a child of 11 years old, and he came to live with us at age 23 years old.(See attached pic)
My Dad, John Hennessy, imported Ski Manufacturing equipment into New Zealand in 1966l and Des came to apprentice himself to Dad to learn the art of ski repairs and ski manufacturing.
Des warmed himself to the local Mt Egmont skiers and set up a Ski school with Peter Quinn in 1968.
Des and Peter then ran Dad's Ski Store Scholarships from 1968 for a decade.
He was also involved in rebuilding the Stratford Mountain club lodge, and establishing the T Bar in the early 1970s.
In 1979 Dad sold his shares of Ski Industries to Des, who moved the business to Christchurch. Together with his wife Pauline and daughters Abbie and Jody, they built it up to a diversified mountain business called Ski Industries NZ.
Since then, we as a Hennessy family have remained close friends over the years with Des, Pauline and family, and have participated in holidays and joint ventures with NZSIA.
Our Hennessy family will deeply miss our dear friend and leader in the Ski Industry of New Zealand.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences Pauline, and Abby,
Love and blessings,
Dorothy Hennessy

We have very fond memories of Des and his family when we lived in Methven. Des was a great friend of my late husband Leigh when he was managing Mt Hutt for 2 years. Our thoughts are with you - Pauline, Jodie and Abbie.
