My deep condolences to Dex's family. You've lost a father, grandfather & great-grandfather. I'd like you to know he's esteemed and remembered by many others. We have lost a man who contributed greatly to soil conservation throughout New Zealand throughout almost sixty years working in our profession. During the difficult years between 1988 and 1999 when soil conservation was out of vogue with the powers that be, Dex encouraged us to keep going. His support for us and influence with them was instrumental in getting soil conservation activities under way again from 2000 onwards, not only in Taranaki but elsewhere throughout New Zealand. Truly, a mighty totara who supported our ridgepole has fallen, but the seedlings he nurtured have grown to support the roof around where he stood. Dex, I salute you ... and shall miss those conversations - "chewing the cud" as you termed them - about sensible and practical soil conservation

Farewell Dex; a colourful ,helpful, friendly work colleague who was always prepared to share his wealth of knowledge and wisdom. His friendliness and wide experience in most things related to Catchment Board and Regional Council matters made sharing advice an essential and valued part of my TRC work life. Thanks so much; you will be long-remembered.

Dex was a lovely, very genuine man who I was lucky enough to get to know during the years we worked at TRC in Stratford. Always happy to chat, share a joke, he treated everyone equally. Sad to learn he has passed but rest assured he's not been forgotten. My sympathy to his family.

I have lovely memories of Dex at TRC especially our chats during lunch putting the world to rights. We always looked forward to spring and the buckets of flowers for all staff. Dex was a wonderful and caring man. My condolences to the family.

Dex was the best man, best work colleague, best boss, best friend that anyone could ever ask for. His sense of humour was always spot on and seeing the gleam in his eyes always made you smile and feel better. He made people feel special simply by listening to what they were saying and he's was always willing to do that. A final memory I have to mention was at the beginning of Spring, Dex would bring little bouquets of freesias into work for everyone to enjoy.

The world has enjoyed Dex for 87 years. While working at Taranaki Regional Council I truly appreciated his wisdom, kindness and assistance. I also had some lovely chats with him and Pam after I moved on to other employment.
My sincere condolences to all of the family.
