I met Don back in 2013 when he introduced himself to me and my friends after he'd seen us relaxing on the beach in New Plymouth.

He was extremely friendly, taking time out of his day to get to know us and where we'd all come from since we were all international students working in schools nearby. He even invited us to his nearby home, where he showed us relics of his past careers and proudly spoke about his journeys around the islands and both his and his family's accomplishments.

I just recently stumbled across the business card Don gave me as he'd offered to find us jobs or help us out if we were ever in times of need, and to find that he's passed on at first brought sadness, but to see all the lives he's touched and the family he had, I know that countless others like me have a story to share about him and his kindness.

Rest easy, Don. Know that I'll remember and share your story with those around me, even though to you, it was likely just another Tuesday.

From your South Taranaki Harvey cousins, sending our love and thoughts at this time. Don was such a great character and conversationalist, generous and good fun, with an enormous sense of civic duty. As a kid, I am grateful to him for teaching me to windsurf and enjoyed hearing him regale lots of fascinating stories, like shark sightings while out windsurfing!. He will be greatly missed, while it's also comforting to think that he will be with his beloved Margaret again. Love and best wishes from Lorraine, Cliffs, Jill, Martin, Andrew, Justine and families.
