To the Slater Family
So saddened to learn of Don's passing. A true Gentleman who was always so passionate about rugby, the family and the farm - no necessarily in that order. Both Don & Ailsa always made me welcome and we shared lots of great rugby trips and time on the farm when the boys were away playing. Treasure your memories. Thinking of you all - he will be smiling down knowing the Ranfurly Shield is home in the Naki. Take care. Nola Higgins

Can I pass on my condolences to the Slater Whanau for their sad loss of a husband, father and Grandfather. I well remember the good times spent with Don as he followed his two sons as they made their appearances for The Taranaki Primary School Reps. Those discussions at that time showed me the strong values Don held and had passed on to both his sons who were destined for higher honours. It is those fine memories I have of a fine man when I heard of the whanau's sad loss. Haere, haere. haere, Don. RIP.

Farewell cousin- memories of years past drift across those grassy fields as if they were only made yesterday. The celebrations on the long verandah- the experience with the stock prodder- the long shingle driveway up from the old farm gate at the road past the forest- I shall treasure them always. My condolences and arohanui to you Ailsa, Maxine, Andrew and Gordon, - Don was one of a kind.

To the Slater Family.
I am sorry to learn of Don's passing. I first knew Don as Chairman of Moa-Nui Co-op dairies, and later often did farm supply deliveries to the farm, where often Don would be feeding calves or working around the shed. He always had time to say hello, and I enjoyed talking about farming issues. A true farmer and will always be remembered
