Dorothy HANNAN Obituary

HANNAN, Dorothy Jean:
Our darling Jean passed away peacefully on 30 September 2016, aged 96 years. Loved mother and mother-in-law of Robert (Rocky) and Annmarie, Douglas, Maureen and Stephen. Cherished grandmother of Tiffany, Kristjan, Sean, Casey, Stefan, Kelsey, Riley and Sophie, and a friend to many. Jean was predeceased by her parents, William and Mabel Hoskin, brothers Malcolm, Jack and David and by her sisters Florence and May. Jean was born December 3, 1919 and raised in Calgary, Canada, where she met her husband to be, the late Leonard Walter (Len) Hannan while he was training with the Commonwealth Air Training Force. After distinguished war service as Captain of a Lancaster bomber crew in the RNZAF 75th Squadron, Len returned to Canada to marry his Canadian sweetheart on 3 July, 1945, and they eventually made their home in New Plymouth. Many strong connections, and further marriages, between NZers and Canadians have flowed from this union, all thanks to that fortuitous wartime romance between Len and Jean. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Janet Mills and the nursing staff and carers at Telford Rest Home for their kind and considerate care. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Plymouth Parkinson's Society, P O Box 5015, New Plymouth or left at the service. A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at Vospers Chapel, 257 Devon Street East, New Plymouth on Thursday, 6 October 2016 at 1.00pm. Private cremation to follow.

Deepest sympathy to you Rocky, Douglas and Maureen and your families. I have been thinking of all our happy memories over the years. Christmas time always stands out and how we loved going round all the families and especially seeing Jean' s Christmas tree and decos, they were the best. Sorry I am not back from Babgkok in time, Brendan will be there bringing our love. Maybe I will get to see you before you go back Rocky. I will come up to NP soon.
Love Annette Hannan
