Very sorry to hear about Ernie's passing. Taught me Geography in 1976 and I still have very fond memories of my time in his class. He had a fantastic memory for remembering faces - even years later. He was a great man who I respected at the highest level. God Bless you Mr Priestley

Ernie, your cheery face has been conspicuous by its absence on the walkway in the mornings. You battled with such courage and, despite all, always had a smile on your face and a cheeky joke to tell. The world is a poorer place without you

So sad to hear of Ernie's passing. Or - as one of his many students at Spotswood College, Mr Priestley.
He always had such a wonderful manner with us. He taught us history with authenticity and care.
I recall his quiet sense of humor and the gentle yet encouraging way he worked with us. Even though at times I was a real scallawag!! He had a way of telling us off - but at the same time couldn't help a little smile as though seeing the fun in it.
I remember his little olive green Fiat. He suited that car (or it suited him - both I think).
Out of all of the teachers I had he stood out as one of those I'll always remember with fondness, respect and gratitude.
Thank you.
