I had the privilege of knowing Freda in 2012. I was in my first year of nursing.

Now 10 years later when people ask me about the patient who broke past the 'nurse defences' and took a place in your heart ... I always think of Freda.

I remember her husband coming to visit daily. They held hands, he would sing to her. She would walk him to the door and then came the most heartbreaking goodbyes I've ever seen.
There was one time I had to shut myself in the bathroom to compose myself.

To Fredas family.
I want you to know that she touched the heart of this nurse to the point of recognizing that smile, 10 years later.
