Very sorry to hear Garry has passed. I have great memories of many hours of playing snooker with him. He was hard to beat. RIP Garry.

Many memories of Garry one of the great Bolshies and a former President of Taranaki Rugby Union had many discussions with Garry sorting out rugby´s issues someone i learnt a lot from regarding organising and administration i always felt indebted to Garry. My sincerest condolences to the family, many happy memories of Garry and Marg. Many a chat held with Garry on rugby and his beloved "Bolshies". I know my father held both Whalen's in high regard. I will sadly miss you Garry and thank-you for the times we shared.

So sorry to hear of Garry's passing. First knew Garry well when I worked with him at his Food market in Nolantown approx 1970/1. Spent much time on rugby, racing and playing snooker. Great fun and friendship with Garry and Meg of course. To Bernadette and David and families our deepest sympathy for your sad loss. RIP Garry

Sincerest condolances, many fond memories of the time we spent together, be it rugby or work. Always happy and willing to share a joke or two. Will be sadly missed RIP Garry.

To Garry's family deepest sympathy to all in your sad loss .Grew up in Manaia with the Whalen family and met up later in Hawera when we spent many happy hours with Margaret and Garry. We were so lucky to catch up with him on Saturday. Memories last forever.

Sorry to read this. Gary and Margaret were great friends of our mum and dad (Tony and Vera Madgwick)and our family . spent many years whitebaiting and camping at Onaero motor camp. Rest easy our friend.

A sad day indeed. I first met Garry and Meg around the mid 1971's. Garry drove our second wedding car when we married back in 1974.

The sweetest gentleman. Sharing Garry and Margaret in our lives has been a privilege. Christmas in particular won´t be the same. Dearly loved by us all - Pono & Aira plus Poppa to Caitlin & Paris.
