I will always remember his wickedly dry sense of humour and was so looking forward to seeing him at the Waitara High School reunion in October.

My sympathy to the Wallace Family. A good innings Hugh to a self taught rugby and cricket coach. Fond memories when he took his 6th form English class to see the Royal Shakespearian Theatre Company in Wellington in 1953.

It is indeed sad to read of the passing of Hugh. A much respected teacher at Waitara District High School from the time of its foundation in 1947. He was involved in coaching rugby and cricket teams in my time at school. Regrettably Hugh will not be with us at the WHS Reunion to be held later this year at which many of us were looking forward to recalling our school days. My sympathy to his family, Hugh played a 'good innings'.
