To: The Family.
Your dad' s passing, for you all, is a time of great sadness and irretrievable loss.
Both your mum and dad, of course, were particularly family-oriented and loving.
Your dad was an example to us all : a man of rare principle and integrity, with a capacity, until his own great loss, of enjoying life to the full.
Ian's knowledge of music, and particularly the works of Wagner, was immense; and I used to remark that he was probably New Zealand's greatest expert on the life of Richard Wagner and his operas.
We have lost a particularly gifted man.

Robert Sorley, New Plymouth.

So many happy memories of my cousin Ian who was a big part of our growing up together in Nottinghamshire. We had many happy times on holiday at Chapel St Leonards in my Auntie Nellies (Ian's Mums) caravan and at our grandparents house at Westwood. One story my mum told me was that before I was born, she and my Dad would take him out in my Dad's car to give his mum a break as he was the youngest of her four children and that on these occasions everyone thought he was my Mum's baby. (He did look a lot like her!) We enjoyed his and Beverley's visits back to England. So good to have kept in touch over all these years. Much love Christine

So sad to read this. Ian was such a great ally in my early court appearances, played the organ at my wedding and was a wonderful kind gentle man. Thank you for always having my back. Rest in peace- much love Michele Wilkinson-Smith
