Sad to hear the news of Jim's passing. There have been times when I thougth he was going to go on indefinitely. Jim, Popa smurf, Hawke one, the head of a hard working, no bs family. a legend in south Taranaki will be missed but he sure did his bit and more. Sorry I could not be at the funeral but my condolences to Bruce, Gary, Peter and all their families.

My memories will never be forgotten...from my first deer stalking trip to Taihape with Dad ( Charlie Bates), Uncle Jack Barron,Gary & Uncle Jim..... In the trusty red Land Rover...
Then as I got older to the haymaking days...loved the times we came over for card games, supper and a chin wag. Uncle Jim's favourite was ginger kisses! You would have made a great father-in-law, but the boys had eyes in other directions lol.
Hugs to the boys and rest easy Uncle Jim. Janine
