Helens passing has taken me back to our youth, the beach and in particular student nurse days living in the Barrett street nurses home in New Plymouth in the late 60´s, it was great to experience newly found independence and be
amongst a fabulous group of girls all wanting to be nurses and Helen was one of them. With that came study, working on the wards together, experiencing a side of life others may not ever see, the stories shared, and of course such a lot of fun. Memories were created and moments of hilarity with the never ending challenge of avoiding the home sister if out after 10pm! How we managed to reach the bottom rung of the fire escape to get back in was a miracle. They were great days, sadly different directions evolved and contact was lost with time. Rest in peace Helen, you will be remembered.
My condolence and sympathy to Bob.

In 1974 when I was starting my nursing, Helen was a District Nurse in NP. I went out with her for 2 weeks. While she provided dedicated nursing care to her patients, she also had fun. We packed lunches to the beach, or looked at new housing during our breaks, she drove like a madman in her battered little DN car, and had me on the lookout for anyone likely to report us. ( it had happened before). Much respect, Helen, and thank you for the memories.
