Full of the old man´s bluster
I walk through them searching
But suddenly lost: I freeze
Among the sails fluttering , flapping.

To My Mother, My Friend,

She lifts you into her arms
Murmurs, `it´s worth it,´ devoting herself,
Thinking of you always, becoming the Mum -

Believing in her, you ask the why questions,
Which she explains away with stick figures,
Resembling masterpieces, to you.

She grins when you freely give her gifts:
Hand painted cards, paint-splash art,
Wrapped boxes filled with pink magic kisses

She´s smashing, awesome, the best,
Brilliance beams off her face and
She knows how to pat your tears,

Hold you as tight as a bear when the world
Tumbles around your ears and you have no-where to go,
Nor would want to be anywhere else,

But there, in her arms.
She tells you stories and memories because
This is how she moves -
She plays peek-a-boo with your children

Like she did with your dolls when they were real,
She baby-sits too, and your hope is to be as
Beautiful as her when you´re 73

Although sometimes unacknowledged,
She is wise and strong, understanding too,
With dreams and glint of her own -

How lucky you were to have such a friend as this,
A Mother to share secrets with,
An ally to share courage with

A hug to share comfort with, and
A Mum, yes you Mum -
Like the one you are, were,

Will always be -
To have shared a life with.
Thanks, Mum, for everything!

My dearest Aunt Jen, I will so miss our conversations over a cup of tea. The love, laughter and wisdom you shared will always hold a special place in my heart. Rest easy till we meet again.
