I was saddened to hear of Joan's passing. I really enjoyed working with her with various events and productions at the Cue Theatre. I admired her talent, and enjoyed her sense of humour and personality. She will be missed.

Joan was and will continue to be as David was a huge inspiration to me. Many years at Cue and just being my friend. We know how special, so that's enough. Love you my friend

Condolences to Mrs Ertels family.

A true lady of the English literature, theatre and a kind, caring Inglewood primary school teacher who I was lucky enough to have for two years in a row. You always had time for your pupils and a rapport like no other.
You made an impact on me and I will never forget you.
Rest in peace Mrs Ertel love Fi Turnbull

'All the World's a Stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances and one man in his time plays many parts.' Shakespeare.

Joan's love of theatre was total, generous and supportive - like her friendship. I will miss her terribly from my life and applaud the way she lived hers.

My deep and sincere sympathy to the family that she loved and left so suddenly.
'A flock of blessings light upon thy back.' Shakespeare (again.)

Sincere condolences to the Ertel family on the loss of your dear Joan. I had the pleasure of helping tend Joan's much loved garden over the last few years. She held much love for her family, nature and all creatures great and small. I will miss our fabulous conversations, her kindness, sharp wit and her positive, determined attitude. A lovely lady who will be very missed.

I only met Joan in the last few weeks while she was at MaidaVale and I was already extremely fond of her. A reader with a voracious appetite for knowledge alongside a keen wit and a generosity of spirit - my favourite kind of woman. I am so sorry for her family to lose her without warning.
