July 18, 1927 – July 22, 2017
With love and sadness, we say farewell to Sylvia, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who passed away peacefully on July 22, 2017. Sylvia was predeceased by her father Hromundar and mother Gudrum Olaf Johannson; husband Jack; daughter Joanna; brothers Ellis, Leonard and Johnny; and sisters Viola and Gladys. She is survived by daughter Carol (Tony Lemanne); son Wayne (Judy); grandchildren Nathan, Becky (Duane Fizor), Steven (Karen Fernie); and great-grandson Jackson. Sylvia was the consummate stay-at- home mom, looking after her home and family at the same residence for over 55 years. Sylvia moved into Millrise Assisted Living in July of 2015, and she resided there for her remaining days. She was a Charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross and loved singing in the choir. She never lost her sense of humour, kibitzing with hospital staff, and singing her heart out with family right up until her final hours. A special thank you to the dedicated professionals at the South Calgary Health Campus who were so compassionate and caring during her short stay at the hospital. To the staff at Millrise Assisted Living, thank you for caring for Sylvia in such a special way. A Celebration of Sylvia's Life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, (10620 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, (800–7015 Macleod Trail SW, Calgary, AB T2H 2K6) or online at www.alzheimercalgary.ca.
