Juanita Owens Jessee Obituary

Juanita Sue Owens Jessee, age 86, of the Big Moccasin community of Russell County passed away at her home on Sunday, March 30, 2025. She was a life-long resident of Russell County and the daughter of the late Craig Scott Owens and Tina Cornelia Herndon Owens.

Juanita was a Christian and a member of Free Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed bird watching, growing beautiful flowers, and loved all of God’s critters. Having a beautiful alto voice, she sang with her family in her younger years. Juanita was a talented artist, an extraordinary seamstress, and an amazing cook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, those proceeding Juanita in death were her husband of 60 years-Paul Burns Jessee, Sr; brother-Samuel Craig Owens; sister-in-law-Fannie Ellen Wallace and husband William; brother-in-law-Burke Fletcher; and niece-Tina Blevins. She is survived by her daughter-Cynthia Gail Jessee of Johnson City, TN; two sons-Paul Burns Jessee Jr. and wife Claudette of Lebanon; and Luther Scott Jessee of the home. Three sisters-Shirley Fletcher of Church Hill, TN; Barbara Gibson and husband Giles of Lebanon; and Sandra Blevins and husband Ron of Wytheville, VA. Sister-in-law-Judy Owens of Michigan; Nine grandchildren-Justin Boothe, Hannah Rodgers, Meaghan Rodgers, Bailey Jessee and wife Lacie, Emily Collier and husband Josh, Adam Jessee and wife Amanda, Ben Jessee, Aaron Jessee, and Ryan Jessee. Five great grandchildren-Adeline, Jace, Rusty, Henry, and Kate. And several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in the chapel of the Combs-Hess Funeral Service, 291 Fincastle Road, Lebanon, VA. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with the Reverend Chris Musick and the Reverend Carlos Wolfe presiding. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, VA. Those wishing to go to attend should meet at the funeral home by 1:40 pm.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Free Hill Baptist Church.

The children would like to thank the nurses and staff of MSA Home Health and Hospice for the loving care given to their mother.
