Julian CHICK Obituary

My name is Mary Turu aka Kereopa Dr Chick was my Dr since I was 7yrs old, we lived in Ohura for some time till we moved to Auckland. I was also a friends with Karen, I was invited to stay the week end with them in Taumarunui and to spend time with Karen, it still brings warm memories to me. He stitched my left leg when I fell off a stock gate I was about 8, he diagnosed me with a dislocated hip when I was 13 and I was operated on in Hamilton and thanks to him I have never had any issues with that hip since, I am now 61 years old. He brought my first child into the world and guess what we named him Julian, he is now 43 years old and he is as proud of his name as we all are. He also doctored my Mum when she was diagnosed with cancer and when she moved home to Taumarunui to die he was there to treat her, we lived about half an hour out of town and he made the trip twice a week. There are many other times but these are the ones that stand out so clearly for me. Dr Chick was more than a Dr to us he was like part of the family he knew everything about us because I confided in him with much confidence and ease. I have often thought of him and the family, and what made me search was because I am currently watching "Dr Finlay" although it is based on a Scottish Dr, it brings fine memories back of Dr Chick especially the older Dr Cameron.
