So saddened and shocked to hear of Ken's passing. He was such a kind and patient man and went the extra mile to help our Beth understand her science concepts. If I had known I would have been at the funeral in person. Sending love and warm hugs to you Barbara and the family.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Ken's passing. Like others on this Guest Book, I knew him as "Mr Lockhart" at Otago Boys' High School. He taught me 7th Form Chemistry in 1981, and he was an inspiration. A fantastic teacher, who made his love of the subject manifest and passed that enthusiasm onto his students. It was because of him that I studied Chemistry at University, and have now gone on to become a Professor of Chemistry. I only met him once after I left school, many years later, when I'd started my academic career. He didn't remember me, and there's no reason why he should have recalled one of an undoubted plethora of unremarkable students. But it's thanks to this remarkable man that I'm where I am today.

Thanks Ken. You have left us far too soon. My sincere condolences to your loved ones.

Mr Lockhart was a great inspiration to our son. He made chemistry interesting for the young boys and encouraged them to be "restless in a positive way". Rest in peace Mr Lockhart.

Ken taught me chemistry in the late 80s. He was a fantastic teacher, and I learned a lot about life and how to handle it from him, which has been far more useful than any knowledge of the periodic table.

I have fond memories of the first week of science in his class, where he demonstrated that he understood the motivations of 13 year old boys by having a weeks worth of experiments where everything exploded or burnt. I was hooked.

His influence was a large part of me going on to work in medicine. I hope that his family and friends can know that some of the kids I've helped over the years in a range of countries are around because of his inspiration.

Goodbye, and thanks.

Our family is shocked to learn of this very sad news of Ken. He was a huge inspiration to our three boys during their time at NPBHS. Ken was an amazing teacher and a tremendous asset to NPBHS. We still recall the stories of his adventurous experiments in the Lab! Ken and family were great friends during our children's formative years and we have many fond memories of these times - along with the days of inline hockey. Unfortunately we are all spread around the world now and can't be with you on Sunday to celebrate Ken's life. Our deepest condolences, thoughts, love and prayers are with you all Barbara, Hayden Joanna and Greg. Warren, Bev and Nicole Batchelar and Richard, David and Andrew Klahn.

Wow, such a shock to hear you've left us, sir. A few years have passed since school, but you'll still always be "Mr Lockhart" to me. Thanks for being one of the best teachers I ever had - so friendly, patient, committed and open to crazy experiments. I saw similar qualities come through in inline hockey.
Love and condolences to Barbara, Hayden, Jo and Greg.
