Dear Kathryn and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
Mr Payne was the most incredible principal when I went to Cloverlea primary school. He is one of the reasons I have led to a career in education. He was always so supportive and would do anything to make sure we achieved our goals. He was such a kind and caring principal and he created such a beautiful culture for everyone. When I came back to New Zealand, I always loved going to visit Cloverlea primary school and to visit Mr Payne.

My thoughts are with you all.

Eric and I have been so saddened to hear this news.

"Mr Payne" was our school principal at Whakarongo in the early 1990s. He was an unforgettably kind and intelligent teacher who inspired and challenged us at a pivotal moment of our childhood education. He made mathematics fun and we distinctly recall his uniform of knee high socks with shorts!

Thank you Mr Payne for instilling in both of us a great thirst for knowledge.

Our deepest sympathies to family and friends during this difficult time, kia kaha.

His ability to connect and teach continued throughout generations, I remember my youngest son came home a couple of years ago saying "Mum, I just had Mr Payne teach me swimming and he was pretty cool".
Mr Payne will always have a special place in our hearts, as do you all. Love from, Leigh, Danuel, Ana-Leigh, Jackson and Mason
