A remarkable man who meant a great deal to both of our families. Always there for us and always asking after our wellbeing and that of our families. The most amazing memory and a source of very fond memories for us. He was a mentor to my father when they worked together and a great family friend after they retired. One of the most caring citizens ever to walk the streets of Hawera, with the respect of everyone he met along the way. South Taranaki has lost its last gentleman.

To all of the Miles Family, So sorry to read the passing of Leith, He was such a gentle giant & so respected in every thing he was involved with throughout the town. When chatting away to him he would always by there names ask about our family & what they were up to. I once said to Leith you got Curly Campbell to build your nice house on Fairfield rd but why on Fairfield rd Leith. His reply was because it's on the end of McCarthy st. To the Miles family, So sorry to hear of Leiths passing. He was dads `boss´ when Mick was policeman at Manaia. So many great
memories of those days. Leith would never forget names. Even
in the days when he was in a mobility scooter in town he always
stopped, had a chat and asked out my kids calling them by name.

It was our privilege to have know Leith over many years In Wellington as Senior Sergeant and in Hawera. Leith was someone both Diane and myself respected and are so very sorry to hear of his passing. My first time serving as a Judicial JP was with Leith and many hours spent at his home training new JP's with a cuppa afterwards provided by Enid. Rest in Peace Leith.

To the Miles extended family, condolences. During my time in SAR as Police Adviser, Leith gave us "anything" we needed, equipment, transport and support. He never forgot your name. He served the NZ Police "in the highest tradition" of policing in New Zealand. After his time as Senior Seargent he continued his community involvement in Hawera and after he lost his driver's license he continued his rounds in his mobility vehicle. He remembered everyone and everyone remembered him. We all are better for knowing Leith.
RIP big guy.

A mighty Kauri has fallen. One of life's loveliest gentlemen. I have many wonderful memories of Leith, while we were in Hawera, and we always kept in touch after we left. Cliff was so humbled and moved when Leith made such a long journey to attend his farewell from the police, in Opotiki, when we knew he had so many other commitments. RIP Leith, my thoughts are with the family.

Leith hung up his Great Coat some 40 years ago but remains one of the most respected members of the NZ Police to have served in South Taranaki, and indeed where ever he worked. Mostly I remember his sharp memory.
His ability to recall dates events and names was legendary. Condolences to family and friends.
