Our sympathy to Mary's family, whom she was so proud of. We lose a long time friendly and giving character from the Okato district.
I especially would like to thank Mary for the generous use of the Okato Playcentre building, which meant so much to the children and families using it over generations. Rest in peace, Mary.

Have fond memories of Mary from my time living in Okato, in the 80's lovely, warm & friendly. Always up for a chat, an Okato identity gone but not forgotten.
Sincere condolences to Mary's family.

On behalf of Okato Playcentre members - past & present

March 14, 2024

On behalf of Okato Playcentre members (past and present), we are saddened to hear of Mary´s passing. Mary was a patron and long-time supporter of Okato Playcentre, having generously provided her farmhouse for use as a Playcentre (rent free!) for decades. She was such a great host and nothing was ever a problem. If we wanted to have a hangi in her paddock - sure! Out of water at centre? Not a problem, just tap into her supply! Been making kites at centre and need to test them out in the paddock? Go for it, the sheep won´t mind!
Mary happily attended many Okato Playcentre AGMs and would often tell us what wonderful Mums we were, and what a great job we were doing, which was so nice to hear!
We remember Mary as a smiling, fun, accepting and supportive friend, with a great sense of humour. Rest in peace Mary.

Dear Peter. Julianne and families,
We are so sorry to learn of Mary´s passing, what a truly lovely lady she was. Her family meant everything to her as she talked about you all with such love.
Mary has been associated with the Mita Family one way or another for a very long time having gone to school with Evan Senior in Hawkes Bay and many memories were shared of those days.
Rest in Peace Mary, you have earned it as you were always a hard worker.
Much love Evan, Kay & Family
