I remember well the first time I met Mike. It was at the Hawera Showgrounds (at the bottom of the clay track) He was organising the handicaps for the run in. He looked at me and said "who are you?" I told him and he said "Oh DOMBO now I can talk to you"
That was the beginning of a long friendship and many happy trips and parties with Mike & Joy & club members. He was best man at our wedding, and a man who was well respected - Many happy memories Mike, Rest In Peace, Lee and Liz

RIP Mike. A huge influence on my running in my teenage years. Much love to the family.

I always knew him as Noddy and treasure the memories we both share with our friends from Newcastle . Noddys contribution to athletics was enormous and wil be sadly missed

So sorry Joy to hear of Mike's passing. Dave and I send our condolences to you and family. Mike was the best coach and advisor and took my marathon's to a new level. Our time with Mike and Hawera Harriers was full of fun and great memories.

So long, Mudlark. I will always remember your supportive comments as I mastered gate vaulting. Yeah,right, My intro to Hawera Harriers was probably the most valuable intro to life in NZ I could have had. If three is a God, he had better be a good runner.
