One memory I have of Sam is helping unload a huge trailer load of dirt with shovels, Sam had the biggest shovel I had ever seen and was steadily unloading the trailer... .. being probably about 12 at the time I had something to prove and set about matching Sam shovel load for shovel load... after about 10mins (or less) I was stuffed..... without pausing or slowing Sam quietly said "slow and steady wins the race young fella" It´s something that has always stuck with me. Will miss all the chats about tractors and contracting.

Dearly loved son of the late George and Margaret Sturgeon of Auroa. Loved brother and brother in-law of Gavin and Brenda Sturgeon (Hawera), and Janice and the late Michael Mullin (Pihama) and their families.
Sadly Sam the bagpipes have played their final tune,
and you will be sadly missed by us all.
