The New Plymouth Old Boys´ cricket club wish to acknowledge the passing of club life member Neil Phillips. Neil joined Old Boys´ in the early 1950s, playing until the early 1980s. He was always regarded as a great `club man´. He did a lot of work organising junior cricket and improving club facilities over the years, particularly the pitch at Western Park, and the clubroom extensions in the 1980s. Later, he became an umpire. Neil was a great help when a book about the history of the club was written and, at the club´s centennial celebrations, he unveiled the new honours board. The New Plymouth Old Boys´ cricket club are very grateful for his contribution over many years. Our thoughts are with his family.

To Lynne and the Phillips family, please accept my and our mum Shirley's deepest sympathy on Neil's passing. WR's was such a big part of our family's life for many, many years. Neil was highly respected at work and as a friend by both mum and dad. Unfortunately mum is now not well enough herself to be at the service on Saturday, so please also accept her apologies.

A wonderful neighbour who always had time to chat and offer advice on every subject. His door was always open and his humour was was the first thing that I enjoyed when we spoke. Neil's nick name was "smiler" and that was his DNA of life. He was a true gentleman and I report on behalf of all of my family who have yet to learn of his passing.
Our sincerest sympathy to all his family.
