I was so sorry to hear of Gareth's sudden passing and would like to pass on all my sympathies to his family and friends. I have very good memories of working with Gareth in QUT and Lancaster. He was a very unassuming person and good fun to be around. Rest in peace, Gareth.

Dear Ann and family, I have just read today, Feb 4, of Gareth's sudden death in my Herald. I had a message before Christmas and hoped to see him before he left NZ. We knew each well during the years of Baradene teaching and kept in contact after he left for greener academic pastures where he thrived. I saw him a couple of times when he visited NZ but not for several years now. I have very fond memories of Gareth and many mementos of our time together which I really do treasure. I loved him as a friend and will never forget him.

Very sad to hear of Gareth with the future full of days hiking and living a dream of retirement in Thailand. Memories of many hours and days working on our statistical challenges at QUT and Lancaster. You worked hard and liked to play hard too.
