A wonderful young guy who I didn´t know as well as others, especially Brad and Adam, but was a warm, kind and awesome man - forever a family member of the AIM group.

To the Mills family. You don’t know me and I don’t know you, but I have had the pleasure of meeting your amazing son Dickie a number of times. Last week, you met my daughter Elise and her partner Scott who own Valentina’s, Marrickville where Dickie and Samara have been part of the team. I am saddened to my core to hear of the unfair and tragic loss of Dickie. I don’t want to appear intrusive, but I write to you as a mother and parent, and I have to write because I want you to know another perspective of Dickie and his time here. I cannot fathom the way of the world, to take him from you and Samara and all his friends here.
We bring our children into the world, and we do the best we can for them. We make them into the adults they will become, and then we set them free. They become their own beings and they experience things we probably won’t ever hear of or know about, but we hope they are happy and making others happy. We know it, but there is a small joy in hearing of the lives and people they touch on their grand life adventure. Dickie’s life was not long enough, but I am surrounded by people who loved him and cherished his very joyful, larger than life being. He lives on in their hearts of course, but the other important thing is that they, we, are all still sharing our thoughts and love for him by talking about him. Every day. To give voice to the feelings we take for granted is important.
Just think, that every person that met Dickie has a piece of him in their mind and hearts and I know that we are all sharing him with others now who never knew him, but wish they had. So I am rambling a bit, but as a parent I would like you to hear this and I know that Dickie gave the gift of himself to them all. Dickie continues to do that, by making the young realise that life is short and should be enjoyed to the fullest.Dickie style.
He was a lovely, polite and funny young man. He has left a chasm for you all over ‘the ditch’, and has also left a huge void here that cannot be filled. But his memory will not fade. I have seen the grief and love for him through my daughter and Scott and all the team. We cannot imagine your broken hearts, but I have been told by so many that you all reflect just why Dickie was as wonderful as he was. Your kindness, and dignity and courage while you were here was a wonderful reflection of your boy. You helped these guys here, and we hope they helped you and yours. I am told you are special people.
