Sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I lived up the Road from him in Nelson. We hunted rats together and were the Nelson College Fives Doubles Champions. I admired his vision and enterprise (commercial? Lettuce growing), in his youth and his success in 70s & 80s which he had pleasure in ringing me about. RIP Ron.

I worked at Westgate Port Taranaki when Ron was CEO from 1994-2001. Ron had a rare combination of being able to "think big" on strategy, interrogate and focus on the detail and yet take a people centric view toward staff. Ron gave me a start as company Finance manager at young age and trusted me with few projects. I enjoyed his company. Best wishes to the family.

I worked directly for Ron at the Taranaki Harbours Board 1986-1992, during the period of the port reform into Westgate Transport. He gave me the opportunity to be the secretary and advisor to the establishment unit, conduct a study into Port Wanganui and many other tasks.
His mentorship and guidance I will always treasure. He was a very intelligent man who loved a late evening talk on a wide range of topics. He inspired.
RIP Ron

I worked with Ron at Port Taranaki for 30 years. Ron was a very caring man and always took the time to help people. He was a great colleague and boss, always willing to give advice when needed, but prepared to give space to those he trusted. His contribution to the success of Port Taranaki through a period of rapid expansion was immeasurable and he still found time to contribute to the re-structure of the New Zealand port industry to what we know today. Shona and I have shared some great times with him over many years and are pleased to have those memories to reflect on and take joy from.
We send our condolences to all the family and will be thinking of you all as you lay Ron to rest
