Sincere condolences to Wiremu´s whanau. He was such a nice man, would always say hello and smile. Such good memories of him growing up.

So sad to read of the passing of Wiremu.

I was SO sad to hear that Wiremu had died. Brought back many happy memories of the Ruakere family living in Belt Road. Hona helping Wayne & I in our shop and all the lovely happy Ruakere kids popping in. The hangi delivered on Xmas day and the very special friendship we had with you all never forgotten. Time goes by but loved hearing news from time to time on you all.
Wiremu always with the big happy smile. You will be missed.

You were a smart competitor on the basketball court and were tough to play against with that bright smile of yours - it just never went away. Your ability to pass a ball into space or in anticipation of wherever your teammate was going to be together with that deceptive head fake kept us honest and run us ragged. And you gave as good as you got too (sometimes better) when it came to bump and grind on the court. You never stopped smiling even when you guys were 2nd, which was rare.

On the other hand, you were a great guy to play netball with and a hell of a teammate. It was a pleasure to play with you for Jack's Auto back in the day. You, me, Whip, Binty, Wags, JD, Jimmy, Tuk's, Angus, Phil, Doug and Gav (sorry if missed anyone) were the best and every time we played a tournament our families would be there and we´d picnic together between games. We won several Tournaments and loved beating visiting Aucklanders and that flowery lot from Tokoroa.

You're a humble fella with a calming presence and it is with much sadness that my wife and I salute you as we reel from this saddening news of your passing e hoa.

A ki a koe ta matou korero, Wiremu was never one to boast except of you and especially his mokopuna. We toast his humility, his strong sense of what was right and his willingness to help others whenever he could.

Rest in Peace our friend, thank you for passing our way and for including us.
