Joan RICHARDSON Obituary

Joan died on Saturday just days after her wedding anniversary. The marriage of Joan and Ross produced three children, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family loved and adored Joan – their Bamma and Jojo. It was Joan's wish not to have a funeral , but rather a Requiem Mass in her honour. Respecting her wishes, the family will bury her beside Ross in the Patea Cemetery. A Tribute to Joan will be held at 2.30pm on Saturday 24 May at St Mary's Catholic Church, Guyton Street, Whanganui, preceded by her Requiem Mass at 1.30pm.

Amazing amazing Lady. The years spent working in that beautiful garden and endless days spent in the swimming pool. Still so bright and switched on when I saw her a few months ago. Her memory was incredible. Our deepest condolences to the family. Never will be forgotten. Much love Stuart and Raylene

Dear Ruth, Mark and Raewyn. My love and condolences I send for the loss of Aunty Joan. A wonderful lady with the biggest heart, the best style and the unwavering ability to make everyone feel special which makes her the special one.
She was magic in my eyes ... so many memories visiting Weraroa growing up ... waiting for the Norfolk Pines to come into view and the sound of the judder bars as you enter the grounds of her and Uncle Ross´ beautiful home.
I will be thinking of you all today.
Much love,
Adie (Nicholson)

Condolences to the Richardson family from Hazel (Powdrell) and Ernest Scott's daughters - Marg, Carry, Philly and Edie.
Joan was always so cheerful and pleased to have a visit. We always loved the rare visits to the farm and later when Joan became a "townie". RIP to a wonderful woman! The photo was taken in 2023, a good example of such a good natured woman who enjoyed a good laugh!

Dearest family of Joan , particularly those I know, Mark (aka Sam) and Ruth.
I would definitely make the trip from Waiheke Island to attend Joan's mass and memorial if I had the opportunity. Unfortunately I had an accident a few weeks ago and am recovering from some fractures and concussion - nothing major.
Joan added so much depth and warmth to my childhood that I only have the finest memories of her. Ever since, whenever I've seen her, she has maintained the kindest interest in my well-being and my life. I can recall her smile, that wry humour, her laughter and her keen attention whenever I think of her. I'm quite sure those same qualities will remain with you all as constants in your memories across your several generations.
Our parents, Pat and Ian, both held Joan in the highest regard throughout their lives, and could guarantee the quality of any interaction they had with her across the decades. She epitomized her Christian values, which also aligned with theirs, but beyond that they had hours and hours of wonderful times together every year.
Joan significantly impacted all five of us as children, and with Alison dying six years ago, and my husband Peter that same year, I know they too would echo my sincerest condolences, and our gratitude for having Joan's aroha and manaaki in our lives. Sending the same to you in your grief. Arohanui, Cath

It was an honour to know such a gracious woman. Always hospitable and cheerful, and made me feel so welcome and special on the few special occasions when I was able to visit her. What a smile! Farewell Joan.

So sad to see Joan's passing. She helped me through Horticulture by correspondence many years ago & was a great inspiration. I have many happy memories at Joan & Ross's place.
