We met at the Peace Vigil in Alhambra about 22 years ago. Then, we were activists together, attending city hall meetings, primarily against over development, and we worked against the completion of the 710 freeway. Over time, I learned of Lilia's amazing childhood where she exhibited independent thinking that moved the priest to expel her from class. I am so glad that her interviews are available at UCLA which may have captured moments that the people need to know. I enjoyed attending her memorable birthday parties. After she went into senior living, when we came to L A from Ojai, we took her to lunch a couple of times and visited outdoors on other occasions because of covid restrictions. We had not seen her in the last year, however, because as a fellow elder, I was confined to a nursing home for half a year in 2024. After a long recovery and lots of physical therapy, I finally was able to come to L A again recently, April 12, and called Lilia, but was unable to get through. Because of distance and schedule conflicts, we could not attend services. I am so lucky to have known magnificent Lilia.
