Deepest Sympathy to Peter's family. I wondered if it was the same Peter Kersey from Hawera Technical High School in the '60s. He taught my brother. I took up Commercial and the only male teacher we had was Mr Newburn, bookkeeping. RIP Mr Kersey.

So sad to hear this news - and stunned to hear that Peter was over ninety. I taught with him in around 1970, having been persuaded by John Happs to emigrate out to New Zealand - and it was Peter who infected me with the incurable disease called 'golf'. I remember his liking for snuff and his army links and the staff parties and lots of other things which are flooding back. There must be generations who have been taught by him - and his children seemed to manage all right having Dad as a teacher at the same school.
I still tell stories of the time he hosted the Mormon missionaries when Doreen was away in the UK. He was certainly a likeable character and I smiled when I saw that his other names were Sid James. We all live on in the hearts of others .....

Really sorry to hear of Peters passing, regret never getting back to catch up with him. Had many a laugh and chuckle playing golf and loosing money to him. And even more fun when occasionally I got his 20 cents

To Stephen, Mary and Bill

It was with sadness I learned of Peter's death and I trust that knowing he had many years of happiness in Hawera brings some comfort to you all.
Peter sent me a letter in 1967 when I was considering moving from Liverpool, UK to a teaching post at Hawera High School. I still have that letter in which he convinced me that I should make the move. I made the move and never regretted it,
I arrived in Hawera in September, 1967 and was made welcome by all - especially Peter who became a good friend and fishing and shooting companion.
He will be missed but long remembered by many.

To Stephen, Shelagh and Bill,
Sorry to hear of Dad's passing, will always be fondly remembered at Hawera High and in personal life too. I remember him and Mum by our honey off my late parents in the 70s. Thoughts are with you all at this time. From Brian Harris, formerly of Hawera now in Katikati.

So sad to read of Petes passing he was always such a lively character and walked many miles around the town over the years to keep fit. I always enjoyed his and Doreens visits when I cut their hair and we quite often exchanged produce from our gardens, he will be sadly missed by the community, RIP Peter
