This message comes from Annette and Tony Scharvi who are travelling through Northland in their motor home and although they
may be far away in distance, they are definitely here with Jan's family and friends in spirit:
Jan you were for us a person we always held in high esteem, a very special and unique person, a person we are proud to have been
neighbours and friends with, sharing many happy times together over more than 30 years during our holiday times at Pauanui.
Tony always said Jan that you were the BEST body surfer on the beach, a good swimmer who loved the sea and especially all that
magical Pauanui had to offer, a place we know you absolutely loved.
We have always respected your hard working attitude and the time you spent keeping your holiday home in top condition ready for
the next set of holidaymakers...we will always regret that those busy times didn't always allow for us to spend more time together.
We will miss you often saying - IS THAT RIGHT - a phrase you continually used in so many different conversations making us smile
and laugh.
There are not many of us who could approach such a sad situation as had befallen you Jan, you have shown tremendous dignity
throughout and your acceptance of the circumstances will always amaze and humble us.
Rest in peace Jan, you were a loyal and treasured dear friend who will be very much missed.

I remember Jan as a person of grace and beauty. And as the person who introduced me at a young age to French literature by the way of Françoise Sagan's Bonjour Tristesse.Condolences to her family.
