Barbara worked on the land for most of her life. The farming families she worked for grew to love her wit, good company and commitment. She first came to our family farm at Kakahu, South Canterbury in 1964 to help with the lambing season, and she returned for a second stint in the early 1970s. We always looked forward to seeing her with her old cars, pack of cards and lively stories, an accordion or the pipes. Her dogs and cats were her constant companions. A life lived with so little in the material sense but with such wealth in friendship, each of us enriched through knowing her.

To Barbara's family, I wish to send a heartfelt tribute to her loyalty, big heart and generosity to a fault. She was absolutely her own person who I was pleased to have with me helping on the farm for a few years. We last talked only a few weeks ago when I learned of her failing health. Please accept my tribute to Barbara 'BP' in appreciation of everything she gave to life, and my condolences to each of you.
BP will long be remembered by me.
Yours sincerely, Ian McIlraith

To the McPherson Family
Barbara worked for us at The Grange, Oxford for a number of years during the 70's. She was very good with our three young boys and a good friend to us. We visited her several times over the years she lived in Fairlie. The last time was around the time of Roger's birthday and she got out her bagpipes to play Happy Birthday. She was a friend to many and I am sure she will be sadly missed. We have many memories of her.
Kind regards, Ann & Roger Loffhagen & family
