Sad to read of the death of my first school teacher. She was a strong person who was a great teacher and a great influence for us littlies starting out at Douglas School. An immigrant from South Africa, she made Maori language and culture a big pirority for us. She can take a lot of credit for any ability I have when it comes to pronouncing Te Reo, and my sympathy and interest in Maori history, culture and people. I called in on her at her home in Taupo a few years ago and enoyed a great chat over a cup of tea. Will be watching livestream today.

Dear family,
In my thoughts this is Mrs Park that taught our two eldest children, Kate and Bridget, at Douglas School in Taranaki . A lovely friend, Mrs Park, to our school families and gentle teacher to her young students. Very often in our thoughts as we remember fond memories of past school days.
Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
Regards
Mark and Anne Stewart.
