Gary Aitken Obituary

GREENFIELD – Gary H. Aitken, age 84, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Franciscan Health Campus. He was born in Toronto, Canada on April 7, 1940 to Hugh G. Aitken and Edna (Hay) Jarrell. After graduating from high school in Montreal he furthered his education at Indiana University and received his Bachelor Degree in 1968. He married Martha (Yturralde) Aitken on January 25, 1985 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gary owned and operated his own accounting firm, Gary Aitken P.A., and after fifty-one years he retired in 2020. He was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), Indiana State Board of Public Accounting, and the Hancock Business Owners Association. Gary was a talented pilot, and he loved flying for over sixty-three years. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, riding his motorcycle, and traveling in his motor home. He enjoyed helping people and would go out of his way to help anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Aitken; son, Michael "Mike" Aitken of Fishers; sister-in-law, Francine Hebert of Montreal, Canada; granddaughter, Brittany Aitken of Louisiana; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Aitken and Edna Jarrell; brother, Glen Aitken; and sister, Beverly Aitken.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A celebration of life will be held following the visitation at 5:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
