Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNeil's Funeral Service on Mar. 27, 2025.
Nina Mae Adams was born on October 3, 1931, in Mulberry, Arkansas, to Poe and Tressie Shipley. She joined her beloved husband, Montie, in the presence of her Savior on March 26, 2025.
Nina grew up in simpler times. Life wasn't always easy, but God was always faithful. Her trust in Him grew into a deep and lasting faith, a legacy her family holds dear to this day and will always cherish.
While in school, Nina met a city boy who captured her heart, much to the dismay of the local country boys. Montie would often tell stories of making the journey from the city to the country just to steal a moment with her. One time, them country boys "rocked" him, letting him know he had no business courting their Nina. But he was undeterred. He talked about sleeping in the ditches late at night, determined that nothing would keep him from her. The two married during their senior year of high school and took advantage of their senior trip to Cuba as a honeymoon, nothing like sharing your honeymoon with your classmates! Their nearly 72 years of marriage stand as a beautiful example of grace, unwavering love, and a faith that anchored their journey together. In her final years, Nina carried a deep longing to be reunited with the love of her life, a longing now fulfilled in eternity.
At her core, Nina was a servant. She spent many years as a nurse, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her service extended beyond her profession, she served up angel food cake, Rice Krispie treats, dirt cake, and brownies (each square perfectly cut with a single pecan placed on top), and of course, served Papa his carefully portioned sausage. But more than all of
that, Nina served her Savior. She and Montie shared Jesus faithfully-not only with their family, but with countless international students. So many, in fact, that you never knew who might show up to a family gathering.
Nina loved all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren equally and fiercely. Even in her final years, she remained a faithful prayer warrior, lifting up each and every one of her loved ones by name.
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents to illustrate how His followers are to live while waiting for His return-faithfully using whatever God has entrusted to them. God entrusted much to Nina, and she stewarded it well. In the moment she passed from this life to eternity, she truly embodied the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
