Alan Dexter Hamaoka
February 4, 1947 - May 7, 2025
"Don't Worry, Be Happy"

Family and friends were shocked by Alan's sudden passing from an apparent massive coronary while working in his garden on Wednesday, May 7.

Alan was born at Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol to Shizue and Sadao Hamaoka, and had a younger brother, Garrett. He went to Analy High School and Sonoma State University, where he made many friendships that last until this day. He worked as a Dock Manager at businesses in San Francisco and Santa Rosa, and also cut and delivered firewood up and down the coast. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, dove for abalone, smoked salmon, played catcher on a local baseball team, and was a faithful fan of the SF Giants, the 49ers, and the Golden Gate Warriors. He enjoyed his life and had a lot of fun. After retirement, he was busier than ever, still doing wood deliveries and enjoying good food with his friends, and still had a lot of plans.

He is predeceased by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Linda Buschke, by his mother-in-law Mary Ann and sister-in-law Diane; by his Aunt Mollie Shinsato and cousins Leslie, Lori (John) and Scott (Tracy) Shinsato; by his Aunt June Fujihara and cousins Deric (Pina), and Jone Fujihara, and Sheryl (Norm) Osaki; and cousins Margaret (Musashi) Takahashi and Karyn (Dennis) Lobley as well as their children, and also by his brother in every important way, Bob (Elaina) Burdo and his family; as well as by many treasured friends to whom he spoke daily. We will all miss this amazing man.

A memorial service is being planned.
